How to verify any investment firm
- 1. Check the SEC Ghana public licence register. sec.gov.gh — look for the firm by name, then note the licence number.
- 2. Ask for the firm's SEC licence number in writing. Legitimate firms will give it to you without friction.
- 3. Cross-check against the register. Licence numbers must match. Pay attention to the licence type — investment adviser, broker-dealer, and fund manager licences do different things.
- 4. Be deeply sceptical of guaranteed returns. Guaranteed fixed-return products are structurally illegal in Ghana and are the most common fraud pattern reported to SEC.
- 5. Keep every document. Receipts, statements, confirmations. You will need them if you later need to file a complaint with SEC Ghana.
- 6. Report anything suspicious. Email SEC Ghana at info@sec.gov.gh and also send a copy to scams@nkosuo.com so we can track the pattern.
